Yo La Tengo, arguably one of the most talented, influential and anti-corporate independent rock groups of the past decade, have updated their tour dates for 2007 through March.
If you are a fan and they are not coming to your city, or somewhere nearby, don't hesitate to send the band an email on their official website.
Fans and newbies to the band are still reeling after listening to Yo La Tengo's highly acclaimed CD from last summer, I Am Not Afraid of You and I'll Beat Your Ass. It is quickly becoming a modern-day indie classic, and don't just take my word for it:
"A Perfect Album" - Urb
"Shaggy, dreamy, cuddly, explosive" - Entertainment Weekly
"Yo La Tengo in full 32-flavors mode" - The Onion
"A bloated, overreaching long-player in the tradition of bloated,
overreaching long-players like Sign O' The Times, Exile On Main Street,
and London Calling" - Slant
The CD is easily one of the masterpieces of the 'new' indie rock/pop (what is indie?) world.
Despite their success, the band remains true to their unique and unconventional musicianship. They've shied away from the media and excessive touring, opting instead to concentrate on working in the studio...
In April 2006, Matador released Yo La Tengo is Murdering the Classics, a compilation CD of cover songs from a live benefit concert. It is currently on back order.
Because of Yo La Tengo's sizeable following and long-time devotees, the band members makes their music as accessible to fans as possible. Check out these free Yo La Tengo MP3s from Matador and these MP3s from the band's official site.
Don't miss a rare live radio appearance of YLT performing their class "From a Motel 6".
They were one of the first bands to use the Internet as a tool to reach out to their fans, and that fueled their success, but definitely in the indie world. There really is nothing mainstream about them, and that's refreshing.
There is no question Lo Ya Tengo is one of the greatest bands of indie rock ( what's that mean?) but their astonishingly prolific and remarkable collection of work over the years definitely will earn them a place in the Indie Rock Museum Hall of Fame.
